Man shot in apparent burglary attempt Police are investigating a shooting near East 66th Street and Troost Published: 9/2/2010 12:30 PM [Broken External Image] A man was seriously wounded Thursday when he heard something at the front door and confronted a gunman who was apparently trying to break into a home. The man was sleeping at a home near 66th Street and Peoria Avenue when he heard a noise at his front door, Tulsa Police Capt. Richard Alexander said. When he went to investigate the noise, he was confronted by a man who shot him several times in the upper torso. The man was transported to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition, EMSA ambulance service spokesman Chris Stevens said. The man is now in surgery, and police won't know more until the operation is complete, Alexander said. Alexander said that it appears that the man was injured during an interupted burglary. A window was broken near the front door, police said. Alexander said it doesn't appear to be a robbery because there was no indication the burglar knew the victim was home. The injured man then ran to a neighbor's house in the 6600 block of South Troost Avenue. Witnesses said that they saw three young men or teens running from the home toward an apartment complex. Two of the young men were believed to be look-outs for the gunman. The suspects were described as being black, 16 to 19 years old and of average build. One teen was wearing a khaki shirt and plaid shorts and another was wearing a black shirt and dark shorts, witnesses told police.
