SB 1159 went into effect yesterday.

What it does specifically is to remove the words "dagger, bowie knife, dirk knife, sword cane," from 21 O.S. 2011, Section 1272. This removes all references to knives from that statute.

What this specific deletion does, is displays legislative intent to specifically exclude all knives from the list of Unlawful Carry items.

As such it would be hard for a DA to attempt to prosecute for Illegal Carry of those specific items as "other offensive weapons" when they were specifically targeted for removal from the statute.

No kidding. I want to carry a broadsword.

Perhaps that could fall under:

  1. The carrying and use of firearms and other weapons provided in this subsection when used for the purpose of living history reenactment. For purposes of this paragraph, “living history reenactment” means depiction of historical characters, scenes, historical life or events for entertainment, education, or historical documentation through the wearing or use of period, historical, antique or vintage clothing, accessories, firearms, weapons, and other implements of the historical period.

OOPS... make that less than 2.5 inches.

The term "dangerous weapon" means a weapon, device, instrument, material, or substance, animate or inanimate, that is used for, or is readily capable of, causing death or serious bodily injury, except that such term does not include a pocket knife with a blade of less than 2 1/2 inches in length.

Except at the post office.

IIRC, 2.75" is the max blade length allowed in Federal buildings.

My bad, see next post.

You will notice that the Title of the Post is "OKLAHOMA'S RESTRICTIVE KNIFE LAW drop off the books today."

You quoted 18 U.S.C. 930. U.S.C. stands for "United States Code" aka Federal Law.

Federal Law isn't changed in any way shape or form by changes in Oklahoma Law and Federal Law is indeed still in full force on Federal Property.
