There will be loud and renewed calls for us to resist unarmed however. :( Still, I teach my own kids that armed or not, there are things you can do. If you can run do so. If you can't, and you can hide effectively, do that. If you can't do either, go on the offense, regardless of the odds. It sure beats sitting there waiting to be the next target. Rush the assailant - throw something (keys, a book, a coffee mug, a chair) at the assailant's face first. While whatever it is is still flying through the air, be charging. An assailant may miss or he may not hit anything vital, especially if distracted or else simply because they can't believe they are being attacked. Be determined to keep charging even if hit. Adrenaline can go a long ways. If you can make it within arms reach, be prepared to hurt the invidual such that he will no longer be able to fire his weapon. Keep hurting the assailant until you believe they are no longer a threat. If you don't know how to hurt someone quickly, learn. I teach my kids how to inflict pain/inflict injury upon even the biggest of assailants. I consider it an obligation on my part so they know how to defend themselves should the need arise.
