It’s more than just ercot. Politicians created the stupid rules. The people voted for them.
.
True story and when things bottom out we can thanks the politicians who did this to us. We've often heard that if we ran our homes and finances like congress we'd go bankrupt. Well gee, can't congress figure that out? Sooner or later the notes will be called or no one will loan us money then where will we be?

Four of the ERCOT board members have resigned in the wake of this disaster.

Four board members of Texas' power grid operator have announced their plans to resign in the wake of a severe winter storm that left millions of Texans without power for days and led to at least 31 deaths in the state. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has repeatedly blamed the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) for the power failures, and has called for an investigation into the council.

In a letter to the board, the resigning members cited concerns about their "out-of-state board leadership." Three of the resigning board members live in other states, and one lives in another country.

The biggest issue is that Tx on their own grid went through a major storm like this in 2011.
The board only recommended that Tx utilities harden their facilities for cold weather protection, not requiring it which led to this recent debacle.
