You can get automotive paint stuck into a rattle can.
Palace auto supply in Norman did some for me many years ago and still does it.
I got lead based lacquer in Red last time ..single stage.
Used it t paint the fender I had straightened on a 91 Escort.
I could buff the red to make it the same shiny as the rest of the car looked perfect.
I have rattle canned many vehicles and it can turn out really nice.
If you use off the shelf stuff keep the surface rough like 220 grit for initial coat.
And not worn out 220 grit.
That rattle can paint needs a rough surface to grab onto or it fill flake off easy.

When I rattle can a vehicle I like to do it in the early morning No bugs out and in the shade.
Ground the vehicle.
Then wipe it down and tack cloth it.
If you use cheap paint from wal-mart you can get a better look if you take lint free cloth and wet it with mineral spirits and wipe the panel to be painted.
While the panel is still slightly wet from the thinner begin painting it .
Make sure you have 3 cans of paint shook up really good for each panel.
Spray can cheap paint dries fast and you get lines in the surface that looks like a rattle can job.
With a wet with thinner panel the paint dries slower and lines are not there.
When it is all painted and dried for a few days you can hand buff it with Meguiers #3

It will look like a professional paint job.
That Dupli Color works well.
I did a motorcycle Front fender and clear coated it when finished and 20 years later it looks like I just painted it.
Got a good scald on it.

my great uncle has a Honda trail 90. I know where several are of them sitting in a junk pile.
