That sucks that you got ghosted on the deer donation thing! I appreciate your willingness to still try again.

Deboned makes it super easy. Even quartered makes it super easy.
I’m set up to clean deer, and I seriously doubt most non hunters are. I figure some people might not participate in this because they don’t have a way to process one. I’m good at cleaning deer and don’t mind doing it, so I hope this offer might make it more feasible for someone without the ability to deal with having a whole dead deer dropped off at their house.

I won’t have a way to print, but I always screen shot the carcass tag anyway and will transfer it through a text.

That makes sense, and is awesome of you to offer up. That sounds perfect for a member who isn’t set up to deal with a carcass.

I never eaten a big older buck. How’s the eatin’ on ‘em? If the meat is tough or pungent just make a bunch of seasoned jerky/sausage/snack sticks/ground? Or are they usually fine anyway?

The bucks I’ve donated in the past to a lady in OKC said she can’t tell the difference in a big buck and a doe, taste or tenderness. I’ve supplied her with deer for over 20 years.
The deer in our area are raised on agriculture. Beans, corn, wheat, and so on.
The diet determines the taste.

How far are you guys willing to drive to pick one up in the field? Where is your preferred shot placement?
I’d drive a couple hours or so. Lung shots or neck shots, but beggars can’t be choosers lol

A couple years ago I got a doe from a guy where I headed his way right when he made the shot. I did the gutting and all. Again I try to make it as easy as possible for the giver of deer.

In 22 years of hunting deer in NW Oklahoma and killing a few 6-7 year old mature bucks, I’ve never had one that was “gamey” or tough. I love liver and have tried to eat one a couple times, and it was definitely “gamey”. However, it could’ve been in how I prepped and/or cooked it. It was edible and tasted fine other than the gaminess. I more than likely won’t try it again though unless I get really hungry.
The meat fibers in NW Oklahoma deer are totally different than east TX deer I guess due to what they eat and fat content. The meat on an east TX deer is like tight I call east TX deer tight hided, because you literally have to skin the hide off with a knife, but on a NW OK deer, once I get the hide cut and started, I can almost peel it all the way down the body like rolling down a sock.
I don’t think anyone would know the difference between a 2 year old doe and a 7 year old buck other than the size and amount of meat. The way I cut out backstraps they’re usually over 4 feet long, and the tenderloins are over a foot long and about the size of my wrist.

As of right now, I’ll be hunting one particular buck, and if I don’t kill him, my part in this thread will be wasted bandwidth.

I don't mind showing up and doing whatever grunt work needs to be done. I'll even wash dishes if I have to! 😉🤣 I'm a little like you -- prefer later in the season, also, but I wouldn't be adverse to helping anyone process any deer someone donated. My way of paying it forward. 😘
I'm still here on sw 39th and county line Rd area but I dont need any venison. Unless its backstrap and i'll never turn that down lol. I have a friend whos son kills something like 20 dear each year. He does this legally but I'm not sure whos providing him those legal open tags. He has access to like 2000 acres out south of Minco, which is where I used to hunt when I lived in Tuttle.
Anyway he just enjoys the hunt and gives away alot of deer.

I am open for some venison. I think I could even handle one that been deboned. I would just send the wife to the daughters while I ground it up. Hopefully I can get our old seal a meal to work. If not, I have quart freezer bags. :P

I will drive to meet some distance but can not to far. Maybe NW side of OKC.

I bought a vacuum sealer on Amazon a few years back for like $20 plus the plastic bags that I cut to length. If thats in your budget, it works well. Similar to this but I paid a bit less.
