So the "sports division" is a separate corporate entity making a profit or breaking even covering their expenses. If the "school division" goes tits up there's no reason the sports division can't continue on with business as usual. Likewise there's no reason the school couldn't sell the sports division for an obscene profit, right? Right?

That post was pure sarcasm. It's been a peeve of mine for years that schools have this shell game.

For a moment there, I thought George Lynn Cross had risen from the dead.

Looks like OSU isn't far behind......

"This week Oklahoma State University's spokesperson Gary Shutt released numbers that show the university's bonded debt stands at $809 million."

Given the previously stated endowment numbers, what's everyone's problem? Didn't we just say it's smart to take on cheap debt in another thread or nah? Or do we just want to ***** about OU football?

Tweedle-dee Dee—he’s on his hands and his knees
Saying, “Throw me somethin’, Mister, please”
“What’s good for you is good for me”
Says Tweedle-dee Dum to Tweedle-dee Dee

Well, they’re living in a happy harmony
Tweedle-dee Dum and Tweedle-dee Dee
They’re one day older and a dollar short
They’ve got a parade permit and a police escort

I think it's really more about the pissing match between the incoming and outgoing presidents. The incoming has a pretty stellar resume in finance and quite frankly, I just don't trust Boren not to use spin in his explanation. He has an absolutely stellar resume in spin!

I get that, but somehow this has morphed into another conversation. I just looked at the endowment fund page for OU..... and it's pretty damn healthy.

Not just finance, but specifically as a turnaround artist. Dad and I were talking this morning, and we speculated that such may have been the reason he was selected, especially over some academics (who are reportedly quite annoyed that they weren't selected, or that any academic was selected). He has a reputation as a no-nonsense, top-down manager. Hopefully, he can bring some sanity back to campus.

It's been a trend recently for state governing bodies to select presidents with corporate experience vs strictly academic. In large part because of the need for fundraising/ investment. It's had limited success. Corporations enjoy some tools that universities do not (such as being able to raise prices whereas many state schools must get permission to raise tuition).
