Tomorrow is going to be getting most of the deck boards fastened in place and bracing the roof so the rotted posts can be removed.

There is only about 1.5 inches of the middle of the 4x4 posts left holding up the roof. Kinda scary to think about while working underneath it....

Add some additional temp bracing and you should be golden.

sounds like he was an admirable guy.

Very...

He was a jack of all trades. And a master of most of them.

He taught me carpentry, electrical, roofing, framing, construction, woodworking, plumbing, sheetrock work, painting, automotive repair, concrete, how to lay carpet and linoleum, how to use a chainsaw, and much, much more...

Given enough time, I could almost single handedly build an entire house from the ground up.

And with all of this knowledge, what do I do for a living? I do computer tech support. Lol

Those are skills that are useful regardless of your occupation. I mean, just being able to do stuff for yourself is a very underrated skill in our society and is worth something.

30 mph winds with 60 mph gusts today. I decided today was definitely not a good day to be messing with the support posts on a 12x12 porch roof .

So I decided to turn my attention to the termite eaten and rotting main support beam for the barn loft.

It spans over 30 ft and there is a lot of stuff up in that loft. I braced it up with a 16ft 2x6 and 3 4x4 posts as a temp support. Then an additional 4x4 support under the connecting walk way between the lofts.

Took just 1 day start to finish.
