It was on the news this morning. I don’t know if he was a Bishop or Cardinal, but during the interview he was asked about moving priests to different locations in his area to cover it up and he denied it. Then they named two who had been. One had apparently done time for sexual abuse and was receiving a check from the church after his release.

Something of this magnitude needs to be dealt with. Those who are covering it up are just as bad as those who commit the crime and may have a hidden history of the same activity.
You would have to shut the whole Catholic church down. Not going to happen.

Google any religion by name along with the word abuse and you'll see there are plenty sites devoted to exposing abuses across every faith. With 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide, by the numbers alone there will naturally be more bad apples than the 40 million Baptists, 16 million Mormons, or 900 million Protestants as a whole. Clearly there is/was something truly despicable going on in PA. Absolutely giving no pass there..

Many years ago I was listening to radio interview with a Catholic Priest who cut through the B.S. and called it out for what it is. "Paraphrasing here" but in a nutshell he said he'd conducted many prison interviews with some really horrific people and had finally come to understand that the real reason they and others "including clerics" do what they do is that they delight in the utter destruction of innocence. It is evil in its most pure form. Hiding behind the Church only makes it that much worse.

That's why the rest of us can't understand how someone could do something so abhorrent to anything decent men would ever allow to occupy their mind. Decent men would give up their own lives ten times out of ten to protect innocence.

These people are not sick, they are evil and should be dealt with accordingly.

That (sorta) explains why the Clergy diddles. It doesn't explain why the church organization, as a whole, covers it up and prevents the abusers from coming to light.

True. There should absolutely be a reckoning there. Hiding it makes them just as guilty. Maybe worse because they let it continue adding to even more destruction. Perhaps the low level parish priests were in fact part of a much larger group protected by those that allowed and likely participated in the whole damn thing. At some point one must ask if that’s the only way it could have been so widespread.

I'm Catholic and I think they should be strung up. The church is just like any other organization. After a certain level, you're no longer there for the people, you're a politician. That's what most archbishops and cardinals are. They're worried about it hurting the image of the church but you would think after all the previous cover-ups, they would've realized covering it up damages the church MORE. Can't fix stupid.

This is of monumental proportions, can any human fathom 1,000 kids victimized by someone they trusted? Sure it goes on in all denominations but this is big in case some haven't noticed. Take those guilty and put them in the yard with the other prisoners. No one deserves to walk the streets or speak from behind a pulpit when they've done this. They stain the very cloth they wear.

And most often when you hear about someone shooting up a location, it will be someone who owns guns, so all gun owners should be locked up.
There are a few hundred million gun owners in the world so when a gun owner shoots up a school that may be .0001% of all the gun owners. If you read the news that would make the child molesting catholic priests a much higher percentage of raping children than the small percentage of gun owners that shoot up a school. So I stand by my original post, if someone in the church is molesting children it is most likely a catholic priest.
