this isn't new. we had a plastic-only beer store open years ago here. less risk of theft, didn't need daily trips to the bank, etc.

didn't need to find employees capable of making change correctly...

plus cash is dirty. There is a rural gas station in a town we often bike through. Last summer they had a sign up saying 'No cash from bras or socks'. I guess they got tired of rednecks handing them sweaty bills.

^^This. Sometimes even with the newer cash registers that tell the employee how much change to give back, they have trouble counting it out.

Money is probably some of the filthiest paper you'll find.
Since COVID-19 happened, I remembered a rerun of the Batman TV show from the 60s where the villain (Joker or Penguin or who ever) had somehow infected all the money in Gotham City and everybody was tossing the cash out of their pockets up and down the streets.
Of course the villain and his cohorts were coming along to scoop up all the cash.

As far as cleaning money, casinos used to wash the quarters they used. Saw it on TV!
I wonder if sunlight or other UV light would kill bacteria or viruses on paper money?

Several years ago, I worked with a guy that decided to buy a new Corvette. He went to the local Chevy dealer, found the vette he wanted, negotiated the price, and when it came time to pay, he gave them his American Express card. After calling in the General Manager, it was determined that he did have sufficient credit line to make the purchase. As the finance guy starts to proceed, my friend says, "tell you what, deduct 3.5% from that price and I'll just pay you cash right now." Again, the General Manager has to join the conversation, and after my friend explains how the fee works, and the delay in getting the remittance from the CC company, they agreed to his deal.

When everybody goes plastic then the gov can tell you take this virus shot or we'll cancel your card. Yeah ,I know my tin foil hat slipped again.
Even worse, the powers that be can deny a transaction.

Think about that.

"They" can tell you what you are permitted to purchase. Anything you can think of that the elite would be uncomfortable with you purchasing?

You are not wearing a tinfoil hat. You are predicting the future.

As far as tips go, I was told by someone in the food service industry that if a tip is given on a CC, the restaurant will treat it like income and deduct taxes before paying the server.
Cash tips on the other hand go exactly where you want them.

Not really sure if I was as clear as I meant to be.

This "No Cash" is a new thing I'm seeing in stores due to the Covid problem.

Was in Dillard's the other day (which is closing here) and the sales were "Plastic Only, Credit or Debit Cards. No Cash. No Checks"
Heard of a loan company that was requiring Credit Card, Debit Card or Money Order for payment but was not accepting cash.

This isn't about giving a "cash discount" that has been going on for years.

This is about not accepting Cash.
Period.
For Payment of a Debt or Purchase.
"For all Debts, Public and Private"

Really not sure how that can be done legally.
But then, there have been a lot of things lately that I'm not sure about.
