About a year ago I picked up a bunch of sand colored gen 3 pmags. I guess this color was a bust because they go on sale a lot and I got these for $6 each. They are pretty much white which I didn’t care for but they function like any other pmag which is all that matters. I went to hobby lobby and got a bottle of this RIT fabric dye and decided to give it a try. You can find formulas where you mix two or three colors and can come close to matching Magpul FDE or OD green but I just wanted a tan color and for them to not be white. I filled a normal cooking pot with about a gallon of water, heated it to boiling then backed it off until the water was as hot as possible without a rolling boil. Once the water was hot I added the entire bottle and stirred it well. I then took a bunch of dust covers and dumped them in, pulling one out every few mins to determine the color. The base plate shown is the original color and from left to right they stayed in the pot for 2,4,5,6,9,10,12,15, and 20 mins. You can basically have them come out as dark as you like. Pretty neat and better than white IMO or paying more than the mags to have them cerakoted.
