No team without a winning record should be in a Bowl!

Bowl is a SHOWCASE. Why would you showcase a team that isn't 7-5 or better?

On the other hand, there are teams posting 12-0, 11-1, 10-2 seasons, BUT they aren't part of a major convergence and have played nobody. Do they deserve consideration for a National Championship?

The conferences should set up a playoff schedule more similar to NFL. Not in a conference, not in a Bowl.

4 Super Conference of 16 teams. Only play teams in your conference.
12 games, determine conference champ.

Bowl games, #3 team can only play a #3 team, etc.
Conference A #1 plays conference B #1
Conference C #1 plays conference D #1

The 2 winners play National Championship.
No politics, no drama, no complaints. A TRUE, indisputable Champion.

130 FBS teams, so over 1/2 the teams would be left out before it even starts. Also, what do you do with the Vanderbilts and Kansas of the world? Make some sort of relegation plan?

It used to be that a team needed a winning record to be bowl-eligible, but the proliferation of bowl games has forced the NCAA to relax that standard. Generally, teams must have "at least as many wins as losses" against FBS opponents, but if there aren't enough teams with winning (or .500) records, there are exceptions that can be made.

When was Vanderbilt or Kansas playing for a National Chambership?

We now have different levels, not all conferences are Div I teams.

As it is now, idiot sports writers, TV networks and politics determine who plays who and where.
