So I am just about ready to start working up some loads. I have been running Hornady Superformance 53gr in my AR for coyotes and they are performing flawlessly. Chambered in 223 with 18" 1:7 twist. Out of 5 different factory loads from 53gr to 77gr, these 53 gr vmax are the clear winner, printing sub moa groups at 200.
So my question is, anyone have a recommendation on which powder to be on the lookout for that will give me similar results as the Hornady Superformance loads are giving?
Any input is appreciated.

I dont know about matching Hornady Superfomance but I used varget with that bullet in a 1 in 8" twist 20" windham. That bullet is designed to perform in tighter twists barrels at increased veloicty. (per Hornady phone call). Had excellent results in a Rock River 24" varmint gun also. From my notes for the Windham. Use at own risk.
223 Hornady 53 Vmax CCI 400 24.2 Varget LC 09 5= 1.413
223 Hornady 53 Vmax CCI 400 24.5 Varget LC 09 5= 1,894
223 Hornady 53 Vmax CCI 400 24.8 Varget LC 09 5= 1.720
223 Hornady 53 Vmax CCI 400 25.1 Varget LC 09 5= 1.505
223 Hornady 53 Vmax CCI 400 25.2 Varget LC 09 5= 1.060
223 Hornady 53 Vmax CCI 400 25.5 Varget LC 09 5= .725
223 Hornady 53 Vmax CCI 400 26.0 Varget LC 09 5= .762

Funny, bottom 2 almost exact same loads I'm using.

Thanks for the info! Now if I could only find some Varget. Lol. That has been at the top of my list as I look daily, seeing as I can use it for the 223 as well as my daughters rifles.
I will keep hunting for it.
Thanks again!

AA-2460 is a pretty good powder for speed with bullets up to 69 gr. You can get a 52/53 grain bullet up around 3300 out of a 20" bbl. It has been my go to powder for many years for 223.

I use AA2230 with Sierra 53 gr. HP match and 1/8 twist 16", can keep them well under an inch at 200, haven't tried them for accuracy at 300 yet but no problem ringing the steel at OKCGC 300 yards.

Any idea as to what velocity you are getting with that load?

If you wish to try some varget I can scoop you some of my stash to try out on 10 rounds or so and see if the velocity is there.
LC 13 cases below with 60 gr V-max flat base and Varget, 100 yards, Savage Axis, 3-9x40 Tasco scope.

I may just have to take you up on that.
I still need to get a few more things such as a case trimmer and chamfer / debur tool, but once I am fully geared up, I will reach out. I appreciate it!
