I just picked up one in nickel with a 6" barrel today, but yours looks much nicer. The stocks on yours look to be in fine shape, too.

Do you know if it was produced as a 4" or of the barrel was shortened?

Looks like a 3 1/2” barrel to me. My four inch 38-44 measures 3/4 inch from the end of the barrel to the “S” on Smith. This one looks closer to 1/4”. Lettering doesn’t appear to be centered on the barrel either. Nice gun though. I would like to own it.
