I was coming back from Gore OK on a fishing trip I had my V65 Magna and my buddy on the back.
Usually cruising at a limit above the speed limit.
I come up on this old pickup truck and he flashes his lights at me after I passed him.

I am no dummy so I slow it down to his speed and get beside him and I point at my Escort radar detector I have stuck on my clutch reservoir.

He holds up the Mic for his CB radio and shakes his head.
I chime in behind him and sure enough a few miles up the road is a Smokey that is flicking his radar on just for a moment.

The Escort would have got me a ticket It had X- K-KA this was back in the 1990's

I wonder if you get Smokey reports today on the CB radio.
Used to people would flash their lights to warn you.
I still flash my lights. Most people look at me like I'm nuts.....guess I'm older than I thought.

Ha, enjoy reading this. I am 73 and most likely have had more speeding tickets than most posting here if the records go back that far, most before detectors. Back then 125+ in my 327 56 chev in a 65 posted was a $20 ticket. I started running detectors when Radio Shack (Originally aTulsa company) came out with one. It has been a battle of the electronics since then. One guy on one side of the street manufacturing and selling radar guns and equipment to LEO. His brother on the other side of the street manufacturing and selling detectors for the public. (Supposed to be a real story several years ago from one of the car magazines). haha One time I was in an aquward situation, thought I had turned my detector off, but it kept going off and beeping as his partner was shooting others while I was showing my license to the officer out my window. Well he did not think that was funny, but he did gave me a warning and said I must have been paying attention to my driving that I knew I was speeding but I also was aware of what was going on around me rather than being asleep at the wheel. Cool Dude who was real and realized I was driving safely at the speed I was.

I never got over the "need for speed," but found other ways to get it. Fast dirt bikes, Mechanicing a Nitro funnycar a couple years. Then later having an OHP plane 2 hangars down from mine. He rode a Suzuki Hayabusai to work many days. I always wondered if that might be a "Conflict of interest"? One time I asked him if it idled in first gear below the speed limit? He just looked at me and smiled. haha

I used to ride with a couple of troopers on Hayabusas, the patrol bikes they had were pretty cool and both were awesome riders.

I started using radar detectors back when the National speed limit was 55. Fuzz Buster and Super Snooper we’re my early ones. Later on Escort was about the best you could get until Valentine 1 arrived with directional arrows. I have a V1 that must be 30 years old, it picks up false alarms now from new autos but I can tell the difference, police radar has a much stronger signal. Got my license in 1950 and only have one speeding ticket, driving a new 87 Mustang GT going by Stringtown before I was aware of their speed trap reputation. Cash to the local cop during the stop and I was on my way.

For Oklahoma - I assume they are legal? What’s the good, bad and ugly with them? I know very little about’um. Are they worth it? What do you use or recommend? I’ll be commuting 200+ per day for work and after this morning I think it’s a good time to spend the money on a good unit. What day you?
Valentine 1 and Waze has saved my ass more than once. Rockymountain radar also makes a hammer that helps.

Also, can anyone tell me why fort puts a govenor or at 155?

I use a Whistler, the higher end model. Just got back from a 11 state road trip, and it saved me multiple times. Only 2 states I've had to unplug it in, is, VA and DC.

the one I have also detects VG2. Radar detector, detectors. Warns of red light and traffic cams as well. Wouldn't leave home without it.

I was going to work last week, saw a trooper on the eastbound side of 40, thought ok only so many to an area lol, pushed it to about 85 and I did hit 90 briefly.. Well low and behold I came up on black suv and I saw it and slowed, he pull his foot off the gas and let me pass and pulled me over. He says good morning, I say good morning. He says you 1 of them guys that likes to get to work early, I said yes sir more minutes on clock more overtime pay. I hand him my DL and ins card and say it may be an expired card, he says I know you have ins. He sits for just a minute and returns. Tells me to keep it under 85 and I say thank you and we fist bump and wish each a great day..
15 over gets ya reckless so I was tickled pink it didn't cost me some serious coin. The wife would have not let me forget about that for YEARS to come. Be polite, tell the truth, no lame excuses and you may come out ok and of course the thin blue line flag didn't hurt none. Ain't had a radar detector since the 90's, must be my good looks lmao. Now to knock on some wood.
