Well, they put a pin in your leg above the knee to hang a weight (kinda' like a sand bag). How do they do that?
June, 2007, when I pulverized my left hip on a murdersickle, I got really well acquainted with the folks at the OU Medical Center trauma unit. I don't remember portions of it because of really good drugs ... some I had never heard of before or since. They decided they had to put that left leg in traction because I kept twisting that hip out of joint. How do they do that? Well, they put a pin in your leg above the knee to hang a weight (kinda' like a sand bag). How do they do that? Well, they've got this Black & Decker cordless drill (purple) with about an 1/8" drill bit ("pin") and they drill right through that bone above your knee (remember them really good drugs?). Seems to me that "pin" musta' been about 12-inches long. I figured that purple color musta' meant it was reserved for medical use only. IDK. They sent two interns or residents or whatever they call them, into my room to take care of this little task. They described what they were about to do and my loving wife, who had remained by my side every minute they would allow, said "You're gonna' do that right here?" Yes, ma'am. "Right now?" Yes, ma'am. She left that hospital room so fast she left a con trail. Them two young fellers deadened up my leg in preparation and, holding that purple B&D cordless drill, one of them told the other "You know they throw these things away after a single use?" So I says (remember the drugs?), "Well then, you just throw the damn thing in my bag sitting right there on that ledge!" And the young feller says, "I can do that, but we gotta' turn the battery pack back in." Well, damn. Just keep it then. I remember that drill bit starting into my leg. Don't have any idea what happened right after that. Don't like purple. .
