Found these articles, wanted to share. Lots of good info here for someone new, someone wanting to find a new carry round, or just for general reference. The article not only breaks down the testing criteria and summarizes the uses for Self defense ammo, but also has video, penetration charts, weight retention, before and after pictures of the rounds, everything for a lot of the common self defense rounds in the calibers we carry. Very good information.

I typically carry HST's in my 9mm's and silvertips in my 10mm, but if I'm having a hard time sourcing replacements when its time to trade out my carry ammo, this is where I'll be going.

Those Lucky Gunner charts are about five years out of date. They are missing information on a good deal of new self defense ammo. In 9mm, a quick perusal reveals that they're missing Federal's HST and Syntec, Inceptor ARX, and SIG Sauer 365 ammo. The charts are good, they just don't cover everything out there now.

Look again because Federal HST and Sig V-Crow are in the chart for 9mm. Federal Syntech isn’t a defense/duty round, it’s a training round. I don’t think anyone credible has a high opinion of the Inceptor ARX round.

edit: It appears that I spoke too soon. Federal does make a Syntech Defense round.

The Lucky Gunner and Doc's self defense ammo information are both very valuable references that I go back to from time to time.

I know. We used to sell them at Walmart. I bought two boxes of them before I left there. SIG 365 is a 115 gr JHP designed for short barreled 9mm pistols such as the SIG P365. Also, are you confusing Inceptor ARX with the R.I.P. rounds? Inceptor never made outlandish claims about the ARX like G2 Research has made for the R.I.P.

I’ve always appreciated that lucky gunner page, seems like a massive compilation to put together. I’m not familiar with Doc, need to check that one out.
