Heck, I remember when you could buy a WWII Italian bolt action rifle by mail for $29.99
Hey now. That ain’t been so long ago. There were little adds in the back of magazines where you could buy them. Like the ads where the wimpy guy got sand kicked in his face and you could order a “Charles atlas” body. It has been a few years ago though.

In 1965 there was a Army surplus store on Memorial around 51st where I bought a Enfield Jungle Carbine for $37.95 They had a crate of them, paper wrapped in cosmoline and looked brand new. They also had a bunch of the short M1 Garands they called Tanker models for $99. I really wanted one of those but the Enfield was all I could afford.

Mom bought us the ‘Husky’ brand jeans at Sears. I would rush through the Jean buyin stuff as fast as I could so I could go look at the cosmoline covered coolness in the outdoor/camping area.
