So I came into an older Remington 1100 literally new in the box, looks like it has done nothing but sit in a safe (well oiled) for the last 40 years, has the box, and two vent rib barrels that both accept Rem Chokes, the original barrel date best I can tell puts manufacture (BH I believe) in the late 60s, however Remington didn't introduce the rem choke barrels until 1986. So for my Remington 1100 experts, is this something that they would've offered to do retroactively or potentially was the barrel excess left over from production that they threaded then sold with a newer (late 80s) LT 20?

I'll upload photos this evening when I get home

How did you come into possession of said un-fired shotgun?
HAHA I promise I'll post pictures first thing when I get home this evening!

A friend of a friend called me and said this old man had some nice hunting shotguns so I went and perused and they were nice indeed, I picked up this one and a Ruger Red Label O/U (Old model) with the box and factory chokes...(:

Well, since Rem chokes didn't start til 86, it's either a newer barrel or was installed afterwards. And you're wrong on the barrel code, The letters are
Blackpowderx, there is no H. It's likely you just misdated the barrel. Use the serial number to decode the date. The letters in it will identify it more clearly.

I’ve got something similar, or similar to someone very uneducated in field shotguns, without a box. It sat unused, but loaded, some couple of decades, and I’d imagine will need a recoil spring. It seems a nice gun but I’ve never thought to use it and have considered selling to allow someone the benefit of using it. It was definitely from a different era in Remington quality.
