With a factory action and barrel? Never have I ever seen a remington 700 or a Savage shoot that badly.

In fact, I've never owned a savage or a remington that wouldn't shoot near 1moa out of the box.

The worst rifle I've ever owned was a Weather Vanguard 308. Bought it used with Nikon glass - - - it shot around 4moa. Ended up being the scope base causing the issues. Fixed it, gun shot .5moa with handloads.

It didn't specify the brand. If mine did that I'd throw it at a cop

How many rounds down this barrel?
    Are you the only owner?
    What trigger?
Is it a factory job? IF not, who chambered it?
    There are lots of variables.

Proper torque is important, but don't expect that to take a 3" group down to 1/4". Have you switched scopes and shot it? Do you know of anyone with a chassis you could screw it into and shoot it?
The most important (after confirmation that scope is holding zero) is to make sure base & rings are tight with no play, same with action screws. after that, look for contact with anything in front of the lug. Crown could be jacked too.
If it was me, and it wouldn't shoot after confirming the above, I wouldn't spend the money to bed it. No doubt it will help, but don't expect magic.

    Yes I am
    Timney @ 4lbs
    Factory action/barrel.
    It could be the crown
Scope is good a tracks everything was snug
He may or may not bed it, bedding doesn't hurt from what I hear but I know it's not the cure all.
I dropped it off with Steve today, he will take it out within a few days if not today to shoot it and see if I'm just stupid, or if it's the rifle.

Can you tell me who you took your rifle to for the bedding job? I have a rifle I need done and I am too chicken to attempt it myself.

ETA- Nevermind, I re-read the thread and found it. Baldwin out of Jones correct? Approximately How much does a bedding job cost?

Glad you figured out what it was. From what I saw on Friday, it was too nice of a rifle for it not to work!
