Picked this up today for a song, Smith 13-2 .357 original square butt grips. Lots of pantina and some holster wear but lockup is tight and it doesn’t look to be shot much.

Had a weird to me SN 6D680xx

Anybody know bout these, maybe give me a value, like I said cosmetically it’s rough, no pitting though.

Bless it's heart. His previous owner(s) sure neglected him. There's a difference between a well used, but well kept revolver with "character" and one that was just rode hard and put up wet. At least the screw heads aren't boogered up, so that tells me nobody has dicked around with it's inards and performed a bubba trigger job.

The model 13 was basically a model 10 but in .357 Magnum. They made a bunch of em, but they don't surface quite as often as their .38 Special brethren.

Being that this specimen is a P&R model, it should fetch around the $350-$400 mark. Could bring more, but that's about what I would pay for it. YMMV.

I agree with GED, $350-400 ish. My 13-2 is a 3” round but and it’s not pinned but is recessed. I have a fair price for it two years ago I thought.

That was my very first duty weapon when I donned a tin badge and began my LE career way back in June of 1989. I borrowed it from my uncle Gerb. He tried to sell it to me for $200 and I turned him down because I wanted a stainless steel L frame.

:faint:

If only I could go back in time...

I wanted a 3” model 60 with adjustable sights and then I found one of these online and started looking for one. I guess the blued 3” round butts were made for LE and the FBI and not many made it into general circulation. I nabbed this one for $530 ish in April 2020 for a birthday present for myself

Bought a couple #13, wood gripped, maybe 70% condition blued, 4” barrel, used from some distributor in Shotgun News magazine back in the early 1980’s, with my new FFL purchase copy that I was so proud of. I remember buying used S&W model 10s’ and 13s’ for $105.00-115.00 Bless the Reagan years.

That's a quality shooter. Nobody's mentioned it, so I'll throw out the standard caution about K frames chambered in 357 mag.

Don't shoot 125gr or lighter 357 magnums through it. The flat spot on the bottom of the forcing cone has been known to crack from excessive firing of such loads. 158gr will be fine, as will any factory 38 Specials.

Exactly.
The initial model 13 was the 13-1. (S&W didn't make a "no-dash" model 13.) Early ones were built using Model 10-6 frames. I happened to nab one such example, with 13-1 stamped over 10-6:

Mine too when I started in 75. I carried a 13. I bought it off of the undersheriff for $200.
I went through the academy with it and I was complimented by the range master I was faster with my 13 and belt loops than the others were with speed loaders and magazines. After I had a primer backing out incident with factory ammo, Federal 125 grain JHPs during a qualification I traded it off for a Springfield 1911 in 1990. It took a rubber mallet to release the cylinder. Never again.
