I had a 659, then a 5906, which was the successor to the 659. Nice pistols, if heavy. Very reliable, low recoil, good for target shooting. I sold mine because I much prefer the balanced heft of the aluminum-framed 5903.

They're great guns. I have a fondness for Smith 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gens. I've had several & the only problem I've had were related to weak mag springs or not having the mag fully seated.

I had a stainless 659. It was my "Miami Vice" gun back in the day. Never had any trouble with it. Used to wash it in the dishwasher to clean. Ahhh yes. To be young again.

Some of the best pistols ever made. I think the 3rd gens (5906 and the like) were probably more user friendly and had sleeker lines, but yeah, you got a goodun. :thumb:

It's sad that these awesome machines always get overlooked and passed up in this polymer world we live in, but...that's the nature of the beast, I reckon. :ugh2:
