I know this is a dumb idea but I'm going to post it anyways.

I want a single shot rifle. I'd settled on getting two...a No. 1 in a crazy caliber (.458 Lott), then an 1885 in a "traditional" caliber, .45-70. In reality, I like the 1885's better but still want it in a "traditional" type caliber, not the Tropical ones like I was planning for the No. 1.
Then, I came across a caliber that KINDA fits both. It's named like a traditional caliber...but packs similar punch to the Tropical calibers in the No. 1.

I'm REALLY thinking of having an 1885 configured to shoot .50-140 aka .50x3.25

It'll be way more than I ever need...it'll suck to shoot, it'll be expensive to shoot...but it would be interesting. If I want to shoot .45-70 I will just grab the 1886 and call it a day.

There you have it, my dumb idea of the day.

I've reloaded quite a bit of 45/120 and 50/90. Because of pressure issues and the weight of the firearms that they're chambered in usually recoil not much different that a regular old 45/70. Pricey ammo and shooting isn't a factor on safe queens anyway........ go for it!!!! :)

I'd have to do an 1874 of one of a couple various builders if I were to do 50/140. It would be nice to know another person who has one and could split the costs on reloading dies, bullets, moulds, etc.
