No lake houses. In fact when they first surveyed it, two of the predicted top camping areas were actually designed and ended up under water by poor surveying when the lake is at normal levels. Cemeteries in Uncas and at Washunga were supposed to be moved, but the contractors moved the headstones then took the money and ran. It was common in the early years after the floods to see caskets floating around the lake, and at one point there was a news photo of a foot with a sock on it sticking out of a mud bank around the old town of Uncas. The cemeteries have since been relocated and those incidents are in the past. Now we just have duck hunters floating around the lake after they drown when going out in storms in tiny boats with paddles and overloaded with gear. I think the body count for duck hunters is up to about 9 now and ongoing. In the spring, the lake commonly moves up and down about 30' because it's the first flood control lake on the Arkansas river chain. Many years ago while a member of the local bass fishing club the Corps of Engineers told us it was a flood control lake only. They could care less about public recreation or fishing opportunities. The spring floods always interfere with the spring spawn, so some species of fish that are depth sensitive when spawning never get to spawn. I've cleaned crappie in mid summer that still had their eggs and were dissolving within their bodies because they couldn't spawn.
