If you had equal piles of surplus 308 and 30-06 ammo, which would you choose?
Price of guns is equal.
Would it really matter?
I'm probably never going to shoot in a match. Just for self enjoyment.
And NO! I'm not going to sell the ammo and buy one of those damned Creedmores!

I would probably run with the 308 especially if I didn’t reload due to the amount of quality match grade factory ammo. If you do reload it would be slightly less expensive than the 06 given everything is equal. Felt recoil would also be less making it easier to shoot accurately

German Salazar is my spirit animal, -06 for me.
If I see one of these in the wild I will go into debt to buy it.

I’ve never understood why people think that.
its .308+200fps
I agree but it’s hard to argue against what I’ve seen in the field with gold medal match ammo with 168gr SMK bullets while shooting friends rifles, (Chandler M40A1, Accuracy International AT, Desert Tech SRS, and a GA Precision). All four shooting the same ammo produced 1/2 to 3/4 MOA groups at 100 yards. I doubt the chambers on those rifles were cut the same and I believe two of them had 1:11.5 twist barrels and one had a 1:12. I’m unsure about the Desert Tech. I’ve also seen Prime and Black Hills ammo perform very well out of multiple platforms.

Granted, these rifles had quality barrels and very nice triggers but quality ammo with a proven bullet played a part in consistency across four shooting platforms. Maybe that’s why “inherently accurate“ is incorrectly applied.
