Savage Model 24V-A 222/20 gauge

Bought this rifle on an impulse buy because of the condition it was in. It is same as new with high gloss blueing with walnut stocks with the nice checkering. Also has the nice scrolling on each side of receiver Fox on one side and Turkey on the other. It is one of the earlier models I believe. If you have any history on this type of gun please share. Not sure I’m going to keep it.

Always wanted one in 223/20 gauge as a kid. If I remember correctly those rifles were originally designed by Stevens Arms in I think 1938 or 39. Steven's produced them in many variants 22lr/410, 30-30/12g , 223/20g among others. Steven's produced them till 1950 then acquired by Savage Arms who produced them till 2010. IIRC. The 223/20g was my dream gun as a kid hunting but never was able to afford one.

I always wanted one in 30-30/ 12ga thinking it was the best all around survival type hunting weapon.

I had one in this exact configuration about 30 years ago. It was my favorite walk around gun. Covered all the bases for shooting a wide range of varmints. The biggest negative I can remember was how heavy the trigger pull was. Other than that, it was a great gun for walk abouts.
