When someone is obviously a scammer and they are requesting your PayPal address, how do they get any money from you???

I think they're using you to funnel money to them.
They steal "Bobs" credit card and link it to their Paypal account and send you money with a stolen card, then after its sent they change their linked account info on their Paypal account, then file a paypal claim to get "their" money back and it gets deposited into their new linked bank account. So they just used you indirectly to funnel Bobs money into the account they want.
