"The lowest measured air temperature on earth is −89.2 °C (−129 F) on 23 July 1983, observed at Vostok Station in Antarctica, but new data published in Geophysical Research Letters this week, has found that some 100 different locations on the East Antarctic Plateau reached temperatures of -98° C (-144° F) during the Antarctic polar night between 2004–2016."

I'd like more info on that statement. I can take a measurement every 1/4 inch and say I took measurements in over 100 different locations and yet I didn't move more than a few yards.

I would also like more info when the GWers/CCers/ locate their data collecting stations at airports on vast slabs of heat emitting concrete, directly behind the hot air discharge from large building air conditioners, etc..

Antarctic Automatic Weather Stations Project is deploying, supporting, and maintaining a network of instruments that take automated weather measurements throughout the year. The data are transmitted via satellite in real-time and the sites themselves require relatively little upkeep. Since the beginning of the project in 1980, there have been approximately 100 weather stations deployed across Antarctica, largely powered through solar energy. The Antarctic Automatic Weather Stations are a very important part of many scientific projects taking place in Antarctica, as these stations provide the only weather measurements available on most parts of the continent.
