Looking down the road. I work with an elderly gent that recently ordered a pistol with brace. He’s really torn because he doesn’t want to alter the gun and at the same time doesn’t want to SBR it for various reasons, mostly distrust of the government.
He ordered from one of the big companies so the ATF already knows he bought it.
I told him to put a pistol buffer on it and go with that but he doesn’t want to do that. Pretty sure he’s going to register it starting today.
Sooo, down the road, how likely will it be that the ATF goes door to door to see if you put a pistol buffer on after checking all the registrations. I don’t think that’s going to turn out well for either side.

For all the Non-compliant folks; all the ones who have decided this is your hill; all the ones who have made the decision to tell the ATF to FO:
You are on a gun forum that serves the reddest state in the Union and is probably monitored by every FUDD possible. You should probably learn that and learn how to STFU or we'll probably see you on the news. I'm pretty sure you don't have the ass and the $$ to run up that hill and defend it on your own. Teddy Roosevelt gave some great advice. Right now you have big mouths and little twigs. Just saying.
This is especially true for the DUMASs that haven't and won't read the rule and just make up sh*t as they go along.

Now listen here sonny, is that one of them dang pistol braces? I'm gonna need to see your tax stamp. Nobody needs a gun that short; this 38" Remington 870 is all you need. No, you can't pick up your brass, it's range property.

As many of you know, the ATF has ruled that many AR-15 pistols equipped with stabilizing braces are now short barreled rifles. ATF rule 2021R-08F went into effect one minute after midnight on Jan 31, 2023. After that date, no unregistered short barreled rifle (SBR) can be transferred (sold) to anyone for any reason, per the ATF. There is a grace period, lasting until May 31, 2023, to do something with those short barreled rifles. There are five possible options for possessors of such weapons. (1) Said weapon can be registered with the ATF as an SBR, (2) the short barrel may be removed and replaced with a barrel 16 inches or longer, (3) the brace may be permanently removed and disposed of, or altered in such a way that it cannot be reattached, (4) the weapon can be turned into the ATF, or (5) the weapon may be destroyed. Again, and this is the important point, an unregistered SBR cannot be transferred (sold) to anyone for any reason. Such weapons should not be listed in the OSA classifieds since they can neither be bought nor sold. (Once an SBR has been registered, it can only be transferred according to the rules for dealing with Class III weapons.)
Your point 3...."(3) the brace may be permanently removed and disposed of, or altered in such a way that it cannot be reattached...." Is somewhat inaccurate. The removed brace nay be kept, unaltered, if the owner possesses another firearm that the brace can be installed on without violating the new ATF brace rule....ie, other AR has 16"bbl, etc. Removed brace does not have to be installed on the other AR to be retained unaltered.

There is a reason why the feds keep on doing this stuff. It’s because we continue to allow them too.
Try and stop it and see what happens...the only people who can stop it are our elected republican leaders and they are who allows it...also, since there are so many liberal beta-males, I am wondering who all these alphas are that are willing to enforce? Sanctuary cities is a liberal concept but if the trump-voting muscle that is supposed to enforce decided not to, some old man in a suit isn't going to be able to himself.

As for me, glad I don't have to mess with this one, but since we do not have elected leaders willing to do more to stop it, my advice has and remains for people to get a 16" barrel unless you WANT an SBR in which case you would have to go through the process and just get a real stock.

I have a question because I have never owned one, when you have a short barrelled rifle and take it hunting/to the range... Do you have to carry paperwork in the event you are checked?
No.
Do I have to keep my tax stamp with my SBR?

Short answer: No. Long answer: The attorney general, or his designee, meaning an ATF agent, can require the owner of a NFA item (suppressor, short barreled rifle, short barreled shotgun, machinegun) to show proof of registration, i.e. the tax stamp.

If I read it correctly it's not enough to just remove the brace. You can't have the brace around any guns that would become an SBR if you installed the brace on them. So I guess give it to someone who has no guns that a brace would convert them to a SBR if you put it on them. Someone else may read it differently but I think just removing the brace isn't enough to satisfy them.
Ah! The good old "constructive possession"!
