Do you buy cars based on the value of the scrap price of the steel in it?

Sometimes!!

& actually have bought several project cars or parts cars by offering what the scrap place would have given for the weight of the vehicle.

I have found that the gold bullion (those $50 Buffalo gold) are worth just the price of gold usually but the pre-1933 gold coins are worth substantially more on the market. I'll take a worn gold coin any day even with solder on the coin. I took a dollar gold coin and put on a necklace and told the wife that is worth $200 easily if times get hard.

Oh, I understand free market and something has a value of what one is willing to give for it but just because 1oz rounds have different stampings on face/obverse doesn't mean 1oz of silver suddenly worth 10x as much TO ME.

I don't think you do...with this "logic" a $1 bill and a $100 bill have no different values? I mean, the only difference is the stampings.

Yes it is very silly, i could argue my thoughts but it is pointless.
People value things worth zero, but here we are.
