Can live ammo (standard handgun/rifle/shotgun rounds) be legally sent through the US mail, UPS, Fedex, etc. between individuals?

UPS has a ground shipping option for ammo. You have to take it to a main UPS hub to send it out.

My understanding is that USPS will NOT take it. I have shipped by UPS and received from both UPS and FedEx.

Yes, what others have said. Just to the actual UPS hub and it can only go ground, but its not a big deal. I used to send my .308 reloads to a friend in Illinois and it was never an issue to ship.
