I don't know if it was done intentionally or not, but there seems to be a "trap" in the new pistol brace rule. Normally, when you form 1 a sbr, you wait until you get the tax stamp to build the rifle. Under the new rule, you have already built the rifle, and you have to submit photos in the registration process to get the free tax stamp.

The FBI used to do the background checks for NFA stuff, but they got into a pissing contest with the ATF, so now the ATF does them. Any background check that is open for more than 88 days is an automatic denial. With potentially millions of people registering, how many background checks are going to be completed in that 88 day window? You have already sent the ATF evidence that you committed a felony.

A lawyer with GOA spoke to some ATF agents at SHOT show, and asked what would happen if an automatic denial was to occur, and the agent said "enforcement action would be taken".

I watched that video too. This whole thing is a vague convoluted frustrating mess.

I am having some joint issues in my hand and I can no longer grip and hold as well as just a year ago- may be arthritis or calcium issues. I am seeing a specialist on it in a couple weeks- would this be enough for a medical need for a brace?

I haven’t heard where the ATF has made any distinctions for the use of an arm brace for medical reasons. Frankly, I’m surprised no one has filed an ADA violation lawsuit.

So if the Draco pistol is a no go because of the "second grip", what about All AR pistols like the RRA?
RRA pistol.jpg

This device surrounding the barrel is normally called a shroud, but clearly it can and most usually is used as a second grip, even though this pistol can be fired with a single hand. All AR pistols have some sort of a hand guard/rail mount that can be gripped with the off hand.

Its just plain stupid to endanger people's lives over some nit picking. Your way more accurate and probably hit the target engaged instead of slinging projectile's everywhere if a support or brace is attached. WTH is wrong with people in DC?
