Smith & Wesson Top Break Russian 44 1880?

Recommendations for gunsmith that can work on this revolver. The Cylinder stop is there and seems to function but it doesn’t lock as it should. Everything else seems to work. I have ammunition for it , but I would ever fire it. I would like to try and get it fully functional though. It reminds of the “Dead mans Gun” tales on a TV show from years ago minus the scroll work. Any help would be appreciated. It was missing hammer post, screw nut and side plate which I found on Gun broker years ago. It’s been setting in the safe. I thought I’d give it another go at getting it repaired.

You might take it to the Shawnee gun show this weekend. This is a collectors show, there are al sorts of those type of revolvers and people who know how to fix them.

That’s not a Schofield, and I don’t believe it’s a Russian. OP, is it a double action? You might try over on the SASS forum for leads regarding a gunsmith who knows those top breaks.

I always thought the term Schofield was referring to the type of revolver, not the chambering. So, I'm guessing the Schofield is not chamberd in .44 Russian? :anyone:
.45 Schofield aka .45 S&W.

I have always wanted an original Schofield but I will most likely never own one.

It is the S&W Double Action first model. According to my old Flayderman's Guide to antique American firearms 3rd edition. Most were in 44 Russian but a few were 38-40 or 44-40.

That appears to be a .44 Double Action First Model chambered in .44 S&W Russian.
