I thought of something else you might find interesting. My husband, the JBT of the family, actually agrees with you. He says he doesn't worry about anyone who has told him they have their CCL because they have been through almost as many checks as he has. Says he has never disarmed a CCL holder.

I disagree vehemently with him. :nono1: Just because you are a CCL holder doesn't mean you can't be having a really, really bad day. Seemingly perfectly sane people can and do snap in an instant. For example the fella that killed his wife here in Bethany recently. They had been together forever. He had worked for the City of Bethany forever. Nice quiet unassuming couple. She came home and caught him looking at porn on the computer. I am not sure what happened after that but in the end she wound up strangled by him (and dead). It was just a little porn ... :anyone: Go figure ...

This goes both ways. We trust the officer, but he could just be having a really, really bad day too.

I'll not enumerate, but in short, I've been pulled over quite a few times since having my CHL, and never had my weapon taken by an officer. They've always asked where it is, but never actually wanted to secure it during the stop. I've heard the line "don't draw yours and I won't draw mine", but the one that amazed me most, was: "remember, I can draw faster than you." And it really sounded like a challenge.

In the end, I want to make it home safe too. So unless the officer tells me to do something that is flat out illegal for *me* to do, I'll comply; and if something happens that I really didn't like, I'll do something about it later. But the officer securing my gun is certainly not worth a night in jail, or worse, getting shot over.

My opinion as a former SDA Instructor and SDA carrying law abiding citizen:

Hands on the wheel...Greet the officer and calmly inform them on first contact that you have a concealed weapons permit and a fiream in your possession, and then just follow their instructions. I can't see what's so hard about that.

I first of all try not to do anything to cause the LEO to pull me over...like speeding or reckless driving or whatever; but in case of a random stop or otherwise, I am going to do what they tell me to do and not voice my opinions or interpretation of the law, or especially make any comment regarding my interpretation of their behavior. Getting even a little bit confrontational in any way during a stop is just downright a bad idea; not to mention disrespectful. (Can you say: Traffic Ticket? Or worse? Sure you can). Avoid, avoid, avoid. Odds are if a LEO has cause to officially interact with you, there is a reason! If you seriously think your rights have been violated, well, you have the right to hire an attorney and pursue legal action. (Good luck with that).

Option #2: Don't carry or stay home. (Again, my opinion and take on this).

Oh I agree with you completely and will be the first to admit that I am more than a little bit biased ... I kinda like GC ... and his retirement wouldn't be near as much fun to spend if he wasn't here to spend it with me! ;) In my defense, I will just say I have met more crazy civilians than I have crazy cops ... but somebody else's experiences may be different ... ;)

I have been pulled over several times since getting my CCL ... had it coming every single time (LFS -- lead foot syndrome). No one ever took my gun but then again I am just a gurl ... each time we have wound up standing on the side of the road chitty-chatting about guns and ammo and stupid people ... :chat: I have a way about me, I guess ... Least that is what I have been told by more than a few of you guys! :anyone:

Mine hasn't been different. Only a couple that seemed less than extremely level headed, and more fair than required! I have LFS too... I work to keep it in control, but it's one of those degenerative diseases! Doesn't help that as I get older, I can afford nicer cars either!

ETA: did you get my PM the other night? See the pics?

Yes ... The pics are on GC's buddies phone and he is off right now for medical leave. Soon as he comes back to work (3 or 4 weeks ... I know, I know, I know) I'll get with ya.

Cute puppy btw ... we went to see Positive Discontent and Biscuit Tuesday. I still miss him a lot but he is a happy happy dog ... he just bounces from one kid to the next getting loving and treats ... :rolleyes2

Yep. That's the problem with GSDs ... they are generally a lot smarter than us ... and those guys learn real early how to work it!

No, no, no ... GC's not sick ... his buddy who has the guns and the pics is ...

Yeah, he's picking up on stuff *fast*!

LOL ... BTDT ...

When we were at Lonnie's Tuesday the kids put Biscuit in the house because we were fixing to go and they were afraid he would try to follow us. Danged dog stood in the door until he thought no one was looking then reached up with his paw, hit the lever, opened the door and came right back out.

So I put him back in and told him to stay put. Know what he did then?? He turned around, went right to the back of the house (the kids had left the back door open) and came out through the back yard, lumbering down the driveway toward us just proud as punch! :rolleyes2

I mean you can't be mad at him ... I told him not to come out the front door and by God he didn't ... :ugh2:

Uhmmmm ... I think we have sufficiently derailed this thread, huh?? ;)
