Very Nice!
I mean...... that sucks!!!!!

But it does look like you found the issue.

I would send it back again and want some compensation on shipping and the stupid ammo they made you buy.. or some kind of compensation.
I'm thinking sending the barrel and trigger back and working out reimbursement for shipping and ammo.

I'd say that's a lemon alright. Send the pic's in also and demand they make it right.
The 26 incher allows for higher velocities over a shorter one.
I'm sticking with 26 for now myself.
For hunting rifle 26 is a bit awkward at times but not always.
The choice is yours.

What about a 26 vs a 28?
Accuracy?
And 99 percent of accuracy comes from the barrel right? Or does the action come into play?
5R with 5 spiral flutes.

Accuracy is the sum of all the components, but unachievable if any one component is subpar.
Are you looking at staying with a Rem factory barrel or aftermarket?
You may only gain velocity with a 28 without other mods.
With a 26 you should be able to find a safe accurate load at 2780 to 2800 fps with a 168 SMK for example,
a 28 might add a few more fps but you will already be at max pressure.
Hope that made sense?

Buying the Krieger will allow for you to pick the length, contour and chamber all to your specs.
The Krieger's at 3RD Gen being 1-10 twist will allow you to try the heaviest bullets available.
All these combined should make a good shooter even without other mods.

If I were do upgrade the barrel on my 700P tomorrow, I would start with a 27in blank at 1.25in
at breech ending somewhere between .950 and 1.0in at muzzle. That's heavy.

I'm thinking of 1-12 or 1-10 twist
Want a hull barrel but just unsure of dimensions

yukon ok
some reading on long barrel and short barrel.
I was told by my friend and a couple others that my savage would be just as accurate, actually more accurate to 800 yards if I cut the 24" down to 20".

Being a bit old school and hearing long barrels are king. and never planning on shooting 800 yards I finally decided one day to chop that 24" stick.
It is more accurate.
Maybe the savage barrel is not as good as the remington. maybe it is on the soft side.

You can always go long and if the accuracy is not what you are happy with then cut it shorter and see if it gets better.
The reading, can't argue with 1/4 moa in this article.
