I work in a student computer lab at a university,,,
One of our new student workers mentioned interest in shooting,,,
So right after work we are hitting the outdoor range at my rifle & pistol club.

She was specifically talking about getting her carry permit,,,
So I think I will take my Bersa Thunder .22 and .380.

Usually for a new shooter I start with an SA revolver,,,
Then work the way through a DA/SA revolver,,,
After that a SA target semi to a SD semi.

But today I'm going to bypass the traditional methodology,,,
I'm just going to start her with a nice SD semi-auto,,,
.22 to start with for low recoil then .380 for later.

I will take my pair of Ruger 22/45's with us,,,
But they are just for a back-up plan,,,
I probably won't even uncase them.

For me I'm just taking the new-to-me H&R 922 I just scored,,,
I haven't had a chance to really try the gun out,,,
I'll go old school while she goes modern.

She has shot some .22 rifle with her dad before,,,
This will be her first handgun experience.

I'll let you know how she does.

My wife grew up with a dad who hunts and fishes and she shot rifles and shotguns as a kid just not any pistols or revolvers, her ex husband she was married to for 10 years and he didnt own guns. First time she went shooting with me down at our farm was 11 years ago, I took a .22 revolver and a .22 pistol, a .380 pistol, a .38 revolver, and then several 9mms. Other girlfriends in my past had just shot the 9mms with me and loved it. My wife went thru all of the guns but settled on an XD 3" sub 9mm. Thats what she used for her CC and what she now carries. Go figure.

We drove to the range immediately after work,,,
By 5:40 we were through all the gates and setting up,,,
I tool the Bersa thunder .22, the Thunder .380, and the Ruger LC9.

Unfortunately we had only fired one mag of .22 from the Bersa,,,
When the club secretary and president came up to us,,,
They are both real nice guys and polite as all heck,,,
They informed us as soon as the mower arrived,,,
The range was shutting down for maintenance.

I admit I had not checked the website for a range closure announcement,,,
So I didn't argue (wouldn't have done any good in any event),,,
But I checked as soon as I got home and guess what,,,
There was not a range closure announcement.

:pissed:

All in all we shot 2 mags of .22 LR,,,
Two mags of .380 ACP,,,
One mag of 9mm.

Courtney did enjoy herself though,,,
She had never fired a handgun in her life,,,
I thought she said she had fired a rifle before,,,
But she swore this was her first time pulling a trigger.

We'll go back again,,,
She was grinning from ear to ear.

Tell me about your H&R 922. I just scored one a few months ago out of nostalgia. One of those was the only pistol my Dad owned while I was growing up. I learned to shoot a pistol with one. It belongs to my youngest son now.

I found one on consignment at H&H in December. Both my sons and mine have six inch barrels.

Well, there's not much to tell,,,
It's a very clean 6" model.

I got it as much for it's old school aesthetics as anything else,,,
I like to match a rifle with an appropriate handgun,,,
This one dates to the late 40's - early 50's,,,
It matches my Mossberg 340 KC nicely.

Accuracy is very good,,,
I hit clay pigeons at 25 yards,,,
It's weird to remove the cylinder to load,,,
But I got used to it fairly quickly and now it's no problem.

It's a nice little no-frills shooter.
