A hot setup for mountain cars with close fender clearance- Spare wheels, Blizzak (or similar) tires, but go down/ narrow a size to allow stud clearance when bottoming out and to concentrate footprint. Our Volvo dealer in Colo. hooked us up with a set of trade out factory wheels and Blizzaks. Tremendous difference over on snow & ice. Probably a PITA to change back and forth for occasional snowy weather. And when it's really crappy, it's time to just leave it at home and break out the 4WD pickup with chains on all 4, a bed full of packed snow, shovels and tow straps. PS- Check your intended new State's laws on the alternative "Chains". They may, or may not count.
