Just made a trip to Santa Fe N.M. Going through the Texas panhandle,I saw these white mounds with tires embedded in them. Anyone know what these things are?

Reminds me of a question about livestock feeding on dormant, yellow, brown grass during winter months, do they get any nutrition from it? Or just fiber, bulk?

Dry grass left in the feild that cattle graze on is mostly just a filler/fiber you always have to feed something else with it if you want to keep the cattle fat and especially if they are breed or nursing a young calf so that both have a good healthy winter, fat cattle can withstand the cold better than a skinny poor cow.
