I don't think there is any scandal. Im guessing Bob just decided it was time. I hope he continues with his community involvement and enjoys retirement. How many schools have two former National Title winning coaches remaining in their town and supporting the program? Lincoln Riley was going to get a head coaching opportunity soon and OU might have missed out on him. At least this way, we'll find out what this young guy can do. I love Venables but I think he is a great assistant and happy in that role.

Bob had nothing to do with the national title, he was just in the right place at the right time.
The proof is, it never happened again during his tenure.

Yeah you're right. Brilliant statement. We all know that Josh Huepel, Quentin Griffith, Torrance Marshall or the other half of the roster Bob brought in didn't make much of a difference. John Blake was just about to break out of that 12-22 record to win a national title when Bob came in and stole his thunder. They'd probably be sitting on 10 national titles if they had just hung on to the brilliance of John Blake a little longer.

I don't think Stoops had the fire anymore. He seemed to just cruise along with the ability of his top tier recruits. He's probably right, it's just time...
