I know of an older guy that has an old trapdoor Springfield in 45-70 that he shot 410 through as a kid growing up. Shot the rifling out from all the years of using it as a shotgun so now it just hangs over his mantle.

He had to trim the 2 1/2 inches shell to around 2 inches and reduce the papers wads and use the standard roll crimp with water glass

45-70 chamber is 2.40 Inches

I looked at the threads mentioned above, I think this explains why I'm not planning to do it...

There is some interchangeability between the 410 and 444 Marlin, but you have to pay attention to the 410's case length.

And NO, do NOT put a factory 444 Marlin round in any 410 shotgun!

I have built several "rifled" 410 shotguns, that with specific loads that would shoot shoot an inch or less at 100 yards from a custom T/C Encore.

These are the 355 gr. loads that we have been shooting. Velocity is 1,500 fps..

These were developed for the guys in Indiana and Ohio where the restrictions only allow for the use of straight walled cartridges.

Bore and groove diameter is the same used as that for the 416 Rigby.

Maybe his trapdoor was a 45-90 or something. Don’t know because I just asked him about the old gun on his mantle and he told me the story. I don’t doubt that he did just what he said, shooting .410 through it as he grew up.
