Do not buy Goodyear Viva 2 or 3. I been running them for years knowing full well they are junk but Im poor and I get a discount at WM so when I have to have a tire ASAP this is usually all that I can afford. Taking my girl back to meet her mom the other day I could tell the car was driving worse than usual. Checked when I got home and yep, belt separating bad on one of the rears. Time for a new one. Checked the other rear since I was already going to have to go get one put on and I could just see that it was starting as well. Had 2 Bridgestones put on the rear. I wanted them moved to the front so I would have the good tires on the front but I didnt want to pay rotation when I can do that in 10 min here at the house. So today I go to rotate the tires and in doing so I checked the front ones. Yep, you can see one is barely starting to do the same thing. Only about 6 months old. Sucks to be poor.

Did you get the extended warranty?
    Sounds like a manufacturers defect.

I am not the most mechanically inclined person in the world (I can barely load a revolver) but unless there is something wrong with your car that is causing them to wear, it well could be a manufacturer defect.

I needed new tires a few months back and went to Hibdon on NW Expressway (over by Freedom Pawn where I was picking up a gun I ordered from Bud's). They treated me very well and could not complain about the price.

They are no doubt just junk tires. Hell you can just tell by how light and thin they are when you pick up a new one. They put one on fore me a year or two back and I didnt even get out of the parking lot. Felt like it was egg shaped and pulling hard. I looked at it and there wasnt one single weight on it so I knew they didnt balance it like they were supposed to. So i pulled back in and talked to the manager and had him throw it on the balance machine. It was 36oz out of balance. Yes, that was right, 36. I didnt even know that was possible on a passenger car sized tire. So needless to say I told them dont you dare go to putting weights on it or even think about putting that tire back on my car.

    Goodyear sucks.
Kumho's very inexpensive and I think Walmart carries them.

I have had Kumhos before and they were good. And I've ran the Vivas on lighter cars and they were fine. But this big heavy Towncar hates them. And they fell apart. But the Bridgestones I just put on there drive so much better. Some day Ill get rid of the other two Vivas.

To prevent hydroplaning, it's safer to put the tires with the best tread on the rear of the car.

My experience with Bridgestone has been positive. I have an old MR2 that can EAT rear tires, but the BS tires I put on it have held up for 10 years and 25k miles (garage queen, doesn't get driven much).

But for daily tires, I've had really good luck with Hankook. Not sure if they're in your price range, but they cost half of what Michelin wants.
