I hope you heal up quickly. As others have stated, let your insurance company do the work. If the at fault party jas insurance, you should at least receive some semblance of a settlement.

I would get a Police / OHP report. It will have the driver’s details. It had to be filed. If not, that’s a different issue that will need an attorney.

Problem is if the guy/girl was a deadbeat, then there's nothing to sue them for. And people who hit and run often do it because they are deadbeat idiots who don't know any better.

Hope the best for OP.

The folks that hit and run do know better, they just dont give a damn about anyone else but themselves.

Chances are any insurance the other party had was just to tag the vehicle then canceled.

I'd let the insurance companies duke it out first. If you get a lawyer, you’re going to have to pay the lawyer, and if the hit and run driver is as much of a deadbeat as it sound like, you’re not going to get enough out of them to make it worth the trouble.

As an attorney I know once told me, getting a judgment is pretty easy. Collecting on it is something else entirely.

Even worthless deadbeats file taxes, they want all that earned income credit, file a lean with the judgement with the IRS to intercept that fat tax check, then smile and enjoy screeching and wailing LOL.

That would be all of them.
Not quite, in my case. I've known two that I liked. Col. George E. (Bud) Day was one. 2nd guy was one of the very young partners in his practice after he retired. I no longer remember his name, but he did paperwork for us to sell our boat anchor mobile home to a cute couple of old folks with next to nothing, and absolutely no credit rating. For cheap, and very quickly done. Col. Day is one of my heroes and one of the very best people I've ever met in my life. Also a lawyer.

Not exactly. There are plenty of personal injury attorneys who work on contingency -- they don't get paid unless they get money for you. Then they take their cut off the top. Used to be 33%, now I think it's closer to 40-50%. Inflation.

Anyway ...

And don't be too quick to say you don't have any injuries. Soft tissue injuries often don't show up for a few days and man oh man ... They can literally take YEARS to recover from. Personal experience with that one.

Good luck.

Got hit over a week ago.
BAPD & BAFD responded and I took an amberlamps ride. driver that hit me did not stop until 1/4 mile down the road, I think only because the family that stopped, their driver went and followed the car and took a pic of te tag. Driver that hit me never came back to check on me and I was told they did not call 911 either. The passersby are the ones that called 911.
So only info I got was when trooper came to hospital and said they had xxxx for Ins carrier.
I called BAPD since they supposedly took the report but they say the info was turned over to OHP and I can't seem to get any info from anyone.
I called the insured drivers ins co but I don't know their drivers name so the won't talk to me.
iI'm close to getting an amberlamps chaser to take care of this but I was hoping the POS that ran over me would do the right thing but I guess people are shite nowdays.

any suggestion?
all I have is a pic of the back of the SUV that hit me & their tag number that the witness texted me.
oh, I also have a crash report number from OHP
I have tried to be the nice guy twice, and both turned out to be a mistake! One was when a drunk driver came over a hill on my side of the road. We hit head on at a combined speed of about 100 mph. This killed his passenger and injured him much worse than me. I was driving a 3/4 ton 4x4, and it was totaled. I told this jerks insurance co. to just pay my med bills, and replace my truck, and I would forget it. Exactly two years and one day later, I was served that I was being sued by everyone that knew ether one of these punks! I learned the hard way, people have exactly two years in Ok. to file lawsuits! They wait until the last day, then by the time you are served, you can't counter sue! It was their fault, and little chance of getting anything, but i still had top hire my own lawyer! After this I increased my liability coverage, this way my insurance company couldn't settle and leave me hanging!

Probably left because he was drinking. Still if the police were notified with his license number they should arrest him on a hit and run. You have a whitness..
