I came into this revolver recently, A 3" Taurus Mdl 431. It's a 5-shot 44 Special, almost identical size to my 3" S&W 65 K-frame. Made in 1992.
The cylinder on the 431 is slightly wider (bigger diameter), making it a more snug fit in the K-frame holsters I have, but it does fit.

2 cylinders, 20 feet. double action, as fast as I got a sight picture I fired. The circle is 3".
My standard 44 Spl handload - 200 grain LRN, 5.5g Promo, any LPP.

The 44 Special is a very good cartridge. I have several 44 Magnums of both Colt and S&W persuasion, and I love them all.

I search out Taurus revolvers from that time period - late 80's thru early 90's. The bluing is wonderful, workmanship is very good.
This revolver has a "target" style hammer, and a wide trigger. Single action is very nice, double action is a bit gritty, but I'll open it up and do some smoothing.
I think this era Taurus models are hidden treasures, at least as good as current production S&W revolvers.

I have less than $400 in a k-frame sized, 5-shot 44 Special. Not bad, in my opinion.

I like the “Bulldog” revolvers; 2-3” snub nosed, 5 shot compact revolvers in .44-45. I have had a 431 along with a S&W 969 for years and both are solid, accurate and compact .44s. I have issues finding practice ammo, but would not trade away my .44s. I consider the Taurus 431 a hidden gem among big bore revolvers. Enjoy yours.

Love my 431. Many years it is still a good shooter and dead reliable. It is a “Bulldog” type ( 3”, 5-shot .44) that is a bit popular now as seen in models from Rugers, S&W and Charter Arms. I have 2 other Bulldog revolvers (S&W696 and a CA Bulldog) and I really like the 44 Spl. So will keep shooting them. Enjoy yours!
