4,000 signatures .. 5,000 needed for grand jury .. deadline June 15th ======== Group holds cookouts across Tulsa to rally against sheriff Protesters express urgency in removing Glanz from office We the People is a group gathering signatures calling for a grand jury investigation of Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz. The group is holding cookouts around Tulsa in its final week before their petition deadline. They have 4,000 of the 5,000 required signatures. Grilling hot dogs and the sheriff, a group gathering signatures to force a grand jury against Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz is making a new push to get the signatures they need. The group, called We the People, have more than 4,000 of the 5,000 signatures needed to start a grand jury investigation. In the final weeks signatures can be collected, the group is offering to fill the bellies of people willing to join their cause. For more than a month, We the People Oklahoma has been gathering signatures seeking an investigation into the Tulsa County Sheriffs role in the shooting death of Eric Harris by reserve deputy Bob Bates. Organizer Marq Lewis said the group is close to its goal, but they want to be over the top with signatures and support when they deliver the petition. These are everyday citizens, said Lewis. We are not getting paid for this. There are everyday citizens out here just taking up charge, believing in themselves and knowing that the system will work for them. In its final weeks, the group is now firing up the grill not just to cook up hotdogs, but to turn the heat up on the sheriff. The group has planned four cookouts this week in every corner of Tulsa, hoping to catch people hungry at dinner time. This is the only law that we have as citizens to take the power into our own hands, and convene a grand jury and force his resignation, said Lewis, so they can come in and recommend that he step down. Battling the summer sun, Glen Graham rallied support at the cookouts. He believes the sheriff passed blame and repute on to deputies to distract from his offices actions. He says Bates received special treatment in being allowed to vacation in the Bahamas. He can blame everyone else and fire everyone thats under him, said Graham, but, ultimately, the buck stops with Sheriff Glanz. The deadline for We the People to get 5,000 signatures is Monday, June 15th. The group will be located in north Tulsa on Monday at Pine Street and Lewis Avenue, east Tulsa on Tuesday at 45th Street & Garnett Road, west Tulsa on Wednesday at 51st Street & Union Avenue and south Tulsa on Thursday at 71st Street & Riverside. The events will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. - See more at: http://www.fox23.com/news/news/local/group-holds-cookouts-across-tulsa-rally-against-sh/nmYd5/#sthash.BIQou17f.dpuf
