I received a text message the other day that asked if I would take a certain amount of money for property I don’t even own. The only association I have to the property is that it is owned by my mother in Ponca City. The text addressed me as John Murphy. My full name is John Christopher. No where on any of my mothers legals show my name. In her will the house is to be sold upon her death and the proceeds go into an account that my mom and dad set up for the grandkids college. The text did not come from or have a phone number to respond to. It had an email address that my phone would not respond to when I tried. I know cell phone numbers and legal info can be obtained but I found this kind of odd.
My mother who is an 82 year old opinionated fireball received a text from a similar type of email that made an offer on 3 vacant lots in Grainola-population 28-that she owns. The offer was for $8,700 per lot. Once again when mom tried to respond to it her message would not go through. She told me if she was to sell them she would have to meet the buyer in person and also know their every intention on what they were going to do with the lots but mostly wanted to talk to the “little s@#t asses and set them straight” in her words. She was rather pissed that she got the text and that somehow her number was obtained. I told her that she would be surprised what all they can get a hold of these days.
Another disturbing thing is the offensive and fowl sexual texts that I and many many other people have been receiving lately. I’ve heard the search engines can scan through phone info send info related texts. There would be a few questionable web searches on my phone but there are people receiving these texts that I guarantee you will not have midget porn pop up on their most visited web sites. They have been so numerous that there was an article in the paper asking about them and several Facebook posts asking also.
Any of you forum members receiving any of these?

The scammers are getting fairly good bots to crawl the internet and see who applies. Be VERY careful. Better yet AVOID. Legit offers will come via official channels. Even Legit offers are always setup to get you excited to contact them. They will get far enough in the process to get you and then start working on you to get it for nothing. When you object it takes moving mountains to get them to leave you alone.

After seeing thousands of offers over the years (no exaggeration) Ive had maybe 2 that were genuine. The buyers had some personal reason to want had very deep pockets and still ended up being told no.

I have been receiving the I'm available texts usually in pairs about every other day during the past week. All I have done is delete as soon as they come in. This may be the reason some Craigslist adds and responses seem to just be fishing for phone numbers. Anytime I post on CL I state in the add that I prefer initial contact through the CL email system but still get responses they might only say call me. Nope of you can't send me an email that sounds like a ligit inquiry, I ain't bitten.

My wife’s cell number and mine are one digit apart.
We both get the same text message offers multiple times daily and we don’t share passwords on our internet.
I’ll get a message from “Sherri” saying she got a nude photo from me on Snapchat last night and wants to send me one back.
A minute later the wife gets the same text.
Neither of us are on Snapchat.
Also get texts saying our city card is locked due to illegal activity. Reply with your account # and SS # to verify account.
We don’t have a city bank account.
The spammers will try everything.

This happens to everyone on my phone plan too. Gam gam clicked a link in a random text she got once, instantly gave whoever was hacking full control, everyone she had in contacts gets crazy texts all the time. Amazingly, she still buys stuff off Facebook and email solicitors, gets scammed all the time. The web is kind of like a drivers license. It's not for the young or old.

Yes, I get weird solicitation texts from various email adresses on occasion the last month or so. Not often, maybe a couple times a week.

I immediately blocklist anything from them without response. And I guard my cell phone number pretty strictly, it almost never gets given out, hell more OSA people have it than probably all other people on the planet combined. :gun2:
