We haven't any business over there now, any more than we had in Korea.

Governments do not have integrity, none of them. The best we could hope for is an educated and involved populace that held our representatives' feet to the fire. "no foreign entanglements" was good advice pretty much ignored since the day it was given.

Yeah, it seems a joke now, but those are actually Thomas Jefferson's thoughts. This "grand experiment" depended on a populace that was educated, moral and involved, according to our founders. They had no illusions of what it might become - in fact I imagine most of them would be saying "I was afraid that's what would happen..." Good run for about 80 years, anyway.
