Burial Mound Summer Run n Gun July 30th, 2022
Burial Mound Run n Gun is a biathlon through the fields and woods of Pawnee County Oklahoma. There are 6 shooting stages with 2 bonus stages for long course runners.

You have the choice of two divisions:
Short course 5K – 7K (3.1 – 4.3 Miles)
Long course 10K – 11.5K (6.2 – 7.1 Miles)
We will make every effort to keep the
distances at or under the longest
listed length for this summer run.

If a contestant would like to run both races you can purchase a ticket for both events and we will schedule those runners to start first the morning of the event. You would be eligible to win trophies in both races.

Competitors will carry a center fire rifle and centerfire pistol as well as all gear and ammunition they might need on the course with them. There will be physical obstacles like cargo net climbs and walls as well as the natural obstacles the terrain provides.

Round count:
Pistol – 40-60 at 7-30yds
Rifle – 40-60 at 40-500yds

This will be a chance to test yourself and your gear in a stressful environment and have fun at the same time. Registration includes a T-shirt and meal as well as the chance to win a lot of great prizes from our many sponsors in a random drawing for all present at the end of the event.

The equipment that is needed to participate is a safe center fire rifle, a safe center fire pistol, enough ammo to clear the course (Most people find twice the minimum round count from the course of fire is sufficient) and some form of stopwatch. Eye protection and ear protection are mandatory for all shooters. Water is highly recommended, everything else is up to the participant. Shooters may use any type of gear they want to carry their equipment with. The only requirement being that pistols must be carried in a secure holster. The holster material must completely cover the trigger on all semi-automatic pistols. Revolver holsters must completely cover the trigger and the cylinder. Due to safety concerns shoulder holsters, “belly bands”, magazine pouches, and cross draw holsters are not allowed as holsters. Rifles may be carried any way you like, as long as they remain unloaded and pointed in a safe direction with the safety on. Targets appointed as pistol targets may only be engaged with a pistol. Your pistol must fire a pistol cartridge and may not be equipped with a stock or brace or braced against the shooter's shoulder. Pistols chambered in a rifle cartridge, such as pistol versions of the AR, AK, etc. are not allowed to be used as your pistol, or to engage pistol targets with. Firearms or ammunition that we believe would damage our steel targets will not be allowed at the event. This would include belted magnum rifle cartridges of any kind, tracers, or armor piercing ammunition that has a bullet with a hardened penetrator core. If there is any question about the admissibility of any firearm or ammo that you plan to use, ask!

Participants will receive both a score for their run based on how long it took them to complete the course and a score for their shooting based on how long it took them to clear each course of fire. All targets must be neutralized to avoid penalties. The run score and shooting score will be equally weighted in determining the participant’s final score. This is true run-what-you-brung field-style shooting. For the most part, if you want to carry it for 5-13 kilometers be our guest. Shooters are expected to have all their firearms sighted in and all their gear ready to go at the beginning of the event and there will be no zeroing at the event. A copy of the rules is available to download at theburialmound.com in the event section and must be read before the event. An email will be sent out a few weeks before the event with more details and the safety briefing on the day of the event will cover all rules, regulations, and procedures.

Most certainly, she has been shooting for 7yrs.
They will ask at the beginning of the event if there is any partners running together. That's when you would let them know there's also obstacles but you can go around them for a time penalty or perform a different task at some of them. Most are not difficult at all just time-consuming.

Is this something good for a spectator or is the course set up mainly for participation so hard to see for a spectator.
If you don’t mind a small hike you can spectate at the shooting stages, it’s best to ask at the event which ones would be best suited to watch from as the space for some stages is pretty cramped in the woods or isn’t conducive for bystanders.

For those who haven’t participated in a run n gun event, I highly recommend that you do at least one. It’s the best way to test yourself and gear. Nothing like trying to engage multiple targets with an elevated heart rate and odd shooting positions.

I’m promise you’ll absolutely learn something!
