Yes, yes, I know there are a number of folks here who haven't been out to the movies since <insert classic movie name or remote date here>. I know.
So... that being said.
Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have great reviews. Critics gave it 18% (of course) but I usually ignore the critics votes, because 90% of them aren't looking for the same thing in a movie that I am, especially with my family. Audiences scored it about 60% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Stephen King's movies (or... movies based on Stephen King's writings?) have a pretty poor track record overall, I think. Nothing since IT has been really profound, I don't think. Misery was arguably pretty good, although low-budget. Of course Carrie, Christine and Cujo are old classics and not great films, but for the time, they were par for most of the course.
Loved The Dark Tower series, and although I honestly haven't been totally sold on the casting, I guess I am willing to wait and withhold judgement.
We're heading to see it in a little bit. Surprisingly, although it is a PG-13, I think that is mostly for thematic elements and violence, the language is very very mild and the sexuality is practically non-existent. At least, very surprising to me these days in a big-budget (supposed) blockbuster, which is refreshing. We use http://www.kids-in-mind.com/ for movie reviews to help decide if something is family-friendly or kid-friendly, and they rated it at a 1-6-3 for sexuality/violence/language. Lower than most of the superhero movies these days. Very glad to see.
So anyways, hopefully it'll be ok and I can report back favorably in a few hours.
