One of my most popular rechamberings in the Ruger #1 - 458 Lott!

For a factory gun that is not as accurate as you think it should be, here are "4" of the biggest things things that greatly improve accuracy in a Ruger #1 -

1 - Rechamber to a longer cartridge

2 - Recrown the muzzle

3 - Cut the scope base in half or use a 2-piece base

4 - Install a Hicks Accurizer, which allows the forend hanger pressure to be adjusted against the barrel.

I have seen hundreds of guns over the years that would shoot on average of 3 to 5 inches groups at 100 yards, then after doing the 4 steps listed above, most would shoot under an inch, with the absolute worst one shooting 1 1/2" groups.

Ok...so I'm gonna make this my post for my new toy that I've wanted for so long.
Long story short, I bought a box of 18 round of .458 Lott about 3 years ago and have wanted a rifle since and it finally worked out.
Biggest rifle I've shot thats close is a .45-70 and a .375 H&H So I have no idea what to expect here. I'm not recoil sensitive but all the chatter about how terrible it is has me a bit freaked out but my ignorance tells me that its not going to be THAT bad.

The Ruger #1 in .458 Lott is a beautiful piece.........enjoy and don't fear the recoil.......but you may want something soft behind you just in case....LOL

I'm close to having enough once fired brass to work up a load for this thing. I'd like to get an honest 2300fps out of it with a standard 500gr solid then load those Speer African Grand Slam tungsten core solids up just for fun. Not surprisingly, the local reloading store didnt have dies for me when I stopped in a few days ago.

So far in my ownership 39 rounds have gone down the pipe. 2/3 or so by me and the rest by friends.
