When I was 13 my grandfather took me to get my first gun. He said I could have anything I wanted. We didn’t see anything at the gun show so he drove me to southwest shooters (yes I’m old). There I picked out the first gun he bought me, this 1982 (K serial number) Colt Python. My love for them has only grown since.

She came out of safe for annual “inspection”. It’s amazing she’s been in family for 36 years. It’s already in the trust to go to my first born so she will be with us a long time still.

Ironic Colt designed the gun that make all men equal and also the gun that made all guns not.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

She's a beauty great story. I have a newer version of it with the black rubber Colt gips need to put some wood on her. Nice pistol need to shoot her with the yearly inspection

OP, Thanks for sharing the story, and great memories. Stuff like this usually zaps most of us to thinking about other things in our lives we may not have thought about for years.

Mine is not as flashy, but I still have my Daisy BB gun my Dad bought for me when I was 7, 64 years ago. I can remember hearing my Mom upset that I might shoot my eye out. I never figured how I might do that until I had a few BB's ricochet back at me. Ha Ha

I remember Southwest Shooters. Yeah, I'm old too. :respect: I almost bought a Colt King Cobra there.

I had just signed up as a longarm and need a gat. It was 1989, so bottom feeders (my dad liked to call them Dick Tracy guns) weren't all the rage...yet. So my chief said I could carry anything I wanted, as long as it was a 4 inch, .38/.357 caliber revolver.

Sadly, I turned down the Colt for a Smith & Wesson model 681.

Beautiful iron you got there! :clap3:
